Having arrived at the Australian training camp in Florida as the baby of the Track and Field Team, Jessica continues training in 35 degree heat with the form of Poland still in her stride. At just 18, Jessica has attracted a lot of media attention in Florida, like many other Australian athletes, as a debutant at the Rio Olympic Games.
“As soon as I got here and had this and I thought Rio, I was like, blew my mind and I couldn’t believe it”.
In the meantime, Jessica must still focus and train hard to be considered as part of the starting four in the 4 x 400m heat on 19 August 2016. On paper, Australia has a strong relay team and all athletes have run into some good form of late and could be an honest chance of making the relay final.
And whilst Cathy Freeman has always been an inspiration to her, Jessica is rooming with another inspiration and current Australian 400m champion, Morgan Mitchell. Mitchell’s form this year has been absolutely outstanding and has driven Jessica to run faster. No doubt both girls will draw upon each others motivation in the lead up to their respective events.
For now, it’s business as usual for young Caviar (Coogee Surf Club nickname) with only 5 days to go before she lands on Olympic territory.
